Physiotherapist + Strength + Pilates

Ellie Atkins

Ellie is a physiotherapist in Richmond with a particular interest in female athletes, sports rehabilitation, strength-based rehabilitation and return to sport.

She holds a Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science and a Master of Physiotherapy Studies and has experience across elite and community sport, including with the Brisbane Lions and Essendon Football Club. She currently works as Head Physiotherapist for Old Xaverians Women’s Football and with Carey Grammar Rowing, giving her ongoing experience managing athletes from injury through to return to competition.

Ellie enjoys working with athletes of all levels, with particular clinical interests in ACL rehabilitation, bone stress injuries, knee and lower-limb injuries, running and field-sport injuries, post-operative rehabilitation and recurrent sporting injuries.

Her approach is active and rehabilitation-focused, combining progressive strength and exercise rehabilitation with hands-on treatment and dry needling where appropriate. She looks beyond symptom relief to consider strength, training load, recovery, previous injury history and the demands of each athlete’s sport.

For athletes returning to sport, Ellie may incorporate strength testing, movement and performance assessment, gym-based rehabilitation and sport-specific exercise progression to guide rehabilitation and return-to-sport decisions.

Ellie also has a particular interest in the unique considerations involved in supporting female athletes and is undertaking further professional development in women’s health physiotherapy.

Outside the clinic, Ellie loves trying new restaurants and exploring Melbourne’s food scene, and has recently taken up golf – still very much a work in progress.

Ellie is at Kinematics Monday to Friday.
