Pep Karalus

Director + Podiatric Biomechanist

Pep Karalus

Pep is a Podiatric Biomechanist and our most senior clinician. After sustaining multiple injuries throughout his high level rugby career, Pep established that there was a need to develop a new approach to manual therapy, exercise rehabilitation and injury prevention. His particular interest is understanding the ground reaction forces of the foot and the result these forces exert on the biomechanics of the body.

Pep began his career studying health science in New Zealand and after a biomechanics placement, instantly found his niche and went on to complete Podiatry. After completing Podiatry, Pep further developed his biomechanical expertise and unique approach by working closely alongside other health clinicians including Physiotherapists, Osteopaths and Chiropractors. Pep has also completed multiple high performance and strength and conditioning courses to continually up-skill.

Dedicted to further bettering himself as a practitioner for both his clients and colleagues, Pep is currently completing a Master of Health Science (Osteopathy) at Victorian University.

At Kinematics, Pep works collaboratively alongside his team of clinicians (Physiotherapists, Osteopaths, Myotherapists, Exercise Physiologists and Strength + Conditioning coaches), as he knows that the underlying cause is typically not addressed by one practitioner treating only one area in isolation.

Pep has had extensive experience with elite athletes on a provincial, national and international level, specifically within athletics, basketball, cricket, netball and rugby union. Using his unique biomechanical approach, he has enabled athletes to not only stay on the field, but perform at their best. Now in Melbourne, Pep wants to make these elite multidisciplinary services available not only to top athletes, but to the population at large through Kinematics.

In the near future, Pep looks forward to running biomechanics workshops and producing various online learning resources that showcase Kinematics’ holistic approach to manual therapy and exercise rehabilitation. He also dreams of Samoan pork buns delivered city-wide thanks to a Kinematics food truck.

Due to Pep being at university, appointment availability is even more limited than usual and frequently changes, so we recommend booking ahead and to get in touch if you’d like to go on his waitlist. Pep is generally at Kinematics on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday + Saturday.
